Full Spectrum Bluegrass is a lively ensemble out of Chicago, IL that captures the joy, pain, and complexity of queer life through the genre of bluegrass. Blending the activist tradition of Appalachian folk music with the stylish showmanship of bluegrass, ‘Full Spec’ uses the high lonesome sound to express a counterculture point of view.
Their debut EP Homesick draws on the driving rhythm of classic artists like Earl Scruggs and JD Crowe to explore the modern queer, trans, and urban experience with original songwriting and complex instrumentation. Homesick offers a take on bluegrass that is not music from a distant place and time, but rather a living tradition with room for people of all experiences and identities.
Full Spectrum believes in bluegrass as a music of belonging, and will continue to fight for the safety and visibility of queer people in the bluegrass community.
